Rehabilitation for Severed Achillies Tendon
Introduction
Aries is a 4-year-old Lurcher. Aries's journey with Snowy’s is a testament to the power of comprehensive rehabilitation and care after a significant injury. Aries underwent a complex surgery to repair his tendon following an accident which caused him to severe his Achillies Tendon. His owner knew it was going to be a long road ahead with many follow up visits to vets and some unfortunate setbacks along the way. Snowy’s determined a combination of LASER treatment, Physiotherapy, Hydrotherapy, and Myotherapy Massage demonstrating a holistic approach to his recovery, addressing both healing, inflammation reduction and muscle rehabilitation.
Treatment Plan
Starting with LASER treatment to reduce inflammation was a strategic move, as it can help accelerate the healing process. Following that up with Physiotherapy to encourage weight bearing and range of motion was crucial, especially considering Aries's young age and energetic nature.
Incorporating Hydrotherapy, particularly in an underwater treadmill, is an excellent choice for building muscle strength and supporting proper gait development. The buoyancy of the water reduces stress on the injured limb while still allowing for effective exercise.
Progress and Outcome
Aries is now visiting for Hydrotherapy sessions on a fortnightly basis, indicating his progress and increased ability to use the limb consistently at home. Regular Myotherapy Massage sessions are also a valuable addition to his rehabilitation plan, addressing any muscle tension or imbalance that may arise from altered gait patterns.
Conclusion
Overall, Aries is receiving top-notch care from the Snowy’s team, and his owner’s dedication to the rehabilitation process is paying off in his improved mobility and quality of life. His owner has been supported by a tailored plan offering him exercises at home to do as well as within the centre.
